Saying goodbye to this console generation is a little tough for me. Life has changed a lot in the 8 years since the last generation begun. I've moved cities, gotten married, got a full time job. Thinking back to the beginning of this last generation fills me with a sort of nostalgia. There are just some memories that I will never forget.

I will never forget bringing home my PS3 and experiencing blu ray for the first time. Movies would never be the same for me.

I will never forget starting my first ever multiplayer match, which happened to be Lost Planet, and finding out for the first time what competitive multiplayer was all about. (something PC gamers had been talking about since Quake).

I will never forget the ending to Modern Warfare, when Price throws you the gun, and I thought gaming couldn't get any better than this.

I will never forget staying up all night playing games with my roommate, Carl. Call of Duty, Halo, Borderlands, Assassin's Creed, Brink, often until I literally fell asleep with the controller in my hand.

I will never forget the train scene in Uncharted 2. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go play Uncharted 2.

I will never forget turning on Mass Effect 1 for the first time and literally spending an hour or two with my roommates, trying to make Shepherd look as much like Jason Statham as we possibly could. (We did a damn good job, but the lack of British accent always threw me off.)

I will never forget the night I finally beat Portal and listened to Still Alive for the very first time, and then immediately downloaded it and listened to it again and again, made it my ringtone, and burned it onto a disc to listen to in the car.

I will never forget Garrus Vakarian who, over the course of eight years, became a very good friend.

I will never forget stepping foot into Rapture for the very first time.

I look about this next generation with excitement for sure. But also with a twinge of sadness. Part of me feels like I won't get the same lasting memories that I experienced during the last time around. Everything was soon new and different. The leap between PS2 and PS3 was like nothing we had ever seen before. Gone were the polygones and pre-made FMVs that had been around since the PS1 era. I really hope that this new generation can provide us with the same feeling of wonder we got eight years ago.

And for those of you who are just getting into gaming, or maybe finding yourselves a little behind, I want to share my favorite games from the past generation. If you haven't played them, do yourself a favor and try them out. They're all amazing.
